Questions
Where do the rates come from?
Live market rates from Coinbase, one of the largest regulated exchanges in the world. If Coinbase cannot be reached, the converter switches to a backup source and tells you which one, with its update time. It never shows a made-up number: if no live rate is available, it says so.
How often do the rates update?
Every 30 seconds while the page is open, and again as soon as you come back to the tab. The time of the last check is always shown under the boxes.
Why is my bank or exchange giving me a different amount?
This is the market rate. Banks, card providers and crypto exchanges such as VALR or Luno usually add a spread or fee, and local Bitcoin prices in rand can sit slightly above or below the global price. Use this as an accurate guide, then check the final amount on the platform you pay with.
What are sats?
A satoshi (sat) is the smallest unit of Bitcoin. 1 BTC = 100,000,000 sats, so 0.001 BTC = 100,000 sats. You can pick Sats in either drop-down.
