Price volatility
Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies can rise or fall by large amounts in hours. Prices can drop sharply and stay down for years.
Platform risk
Platforms can change their rules, freeze withdrawals, get hacked or shut down. Programs that look legitimate can still turn out to be scams. Referral and matrix-style programs depend on new members joining, and earnings can stop when growth slows.
Scams and impersonation

Security and self-custody
If you hold your own crypto and lose your keys or recovery phrase, nobody can get it back. Transactions sent to the wrong address are usually permanent.
Regulation
Crypto rules are changing around the world. In South Africa, crypto asset service providers must be licensed by the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA). Check whether a provider is licensed before you use it.
Tax
Crypto gains and income can be taxable. In South Africa, SARS treats crypto under normal tax rules. Keep records and get advice from a tax practitioner.
